Agroecology: A hundred people trained at Mbeth 2

The populations of Mbeth 2 in the East Cameroon region have benefited from the dissemination of knowledge in Agroecology by multipliers whose capacity building was facilitated by SAILD. This took place over the course of five replication sessions initiated by the NGO on February 24, 2025.

Mbeth 2 is a village in the Diang arrondissement, Lom et Djérem department in the East Cameroon region. The Support Service for Local Development Initiatives ( SAILD) had previously facilitated the capacity-building of 24 people in organic farming and agroecology. Six (06) modules were covered, including the production and management of a farmers’ seed bank, beetle breeding, sack farming, the production of biofertilizers and bioinsecticides, seed coating and seed conservation with corn cobs.

The aim of this SAILD activity is to enable these 24 participants to fully assume the role of “multipliers”, i.e. to pass on the knowledge they have acquired to other people in their environment.

04 knowledge products transmitted

To this end, on February 24, 2025, a SAILD team distributed replication kits, including buckets, machetes, effective microorganisms (EM) and bags to the 24 capacity multipliers so that they could effectively share the knowledge they had acquired. During the day, the organization also supervised the first replication session in collaboration with the master trainer.

According to the latter, in charge of supervising the replication sessions, the initiative was well received in the locality of Mbeth. “At the end of the workshops, 04 knowledge products were replicated among a hundred participants, including over 40 women, in five replication sessions. The participants’ profiles were diverse: small producers, simple farmers, traders and many others. During the workshops, each multiplier spoke individually about an agroecological practice (knowledge product) in front of a minimum of fifteen participants, since in some groups we went beyond 25 participants”, Kevin Boucheke explains. However, the participants expressed their need for further training and their commitment to applying the agroecological practices they had received.

As a reminder, the NGO SAILD is involved in disseminating knowledge about organic farming and agroecology as part of the Knowledge Center for Organic Farming and Agroecology in Africa (KCOA) project.
