Significant rains forecast
The Agrometeorological Bulletin for The first tenth of September 2024 (from 01 to 10) will be marked by significant rainfall over most of the country. As a result, heavy rainfall totals of 90 mm or more are likely to drench most localities in the Adamaoua, Littoral, North-West, South-West, West and Far North regions.
However, moderate accumulations of between 90 and 65 mm are likely to be recorded in certain localities in the East, North, Far North and Centre regions. On the other hand, low accumulations of less than 65 mm are likely to be recorded in certain localities in the Centre and South regions.
Flood risk locations
In the first tenth of September, severe flooding is expected in the Logone et Chari, Bénoué and part of the coastal and Sanaga river basins respectively in Kousséri, Garoua, Tcholiré, Bamenda, Dschang and Bafoussam.
Frequent flooding is also expected in part of the coastal river basins, particularly in Douala, Limbe and Eséka. The rest of the country’s river basins are likely to remain calm.
Moderate heat
The highest maximum temperatures, above 28°C, are likely to be recorded in the Littoral, North and Far North regions. However, the lowest temperatures, between 15 and 17°C, are likely to be recorded in certain localities in the North-West, Adamaoua and West regions.
During this tenth of September 2024, most of the Far North and certain localities in the South, Centre, North, West and Littoral regions will be swept by moderate winds (10-15 m/s), while the rest of the country will be swept by light breezes.
Risks and Tips
Severe flooding and frequent high-water levels are expected to weaken soils, affect farming activities, spread water-borne diseases, damage road and electricity infrastructures and cause migratory movements of populations.
Weather conditions may also be unfavorable for drying corn in the field, but will still be favorable for flowering. But beware of strong winds that could blow the flowers away.
Avoid low-lying areas, unstable slopes and clean drains.
Check hygrometry, which should remain between 45 and 50° for flowering.
Harvest aging crops.
Apply techniques (weeding and hoeing) to protect plants from strong winds.
