Institutional support for SAILD

The staff of the Support Service for Local Development Initiatives (SAILD) benefited from capacity building in monitoring and evaluation from September 26 to 27, 2024 at the organization’s meeting room.

The main objective of this training workshop was to build capacity in monitoring and evaluation, so as to be able to develop monitoring and evaluation systems for multi-thematic projects. A total of nine employees, including two from the SAILD Maroua and SAILD Bertoua branches and seven from the NGO’s general secretariat, took part in the work session. Participants came from a variety of backgrounds: project managers, project technical assistants and project monitoring-evaluation managers.

The two-day training course was led by Jean Paul Ngantchou, a specialist in monitoring-evaluation and learning (MEL). The first day was marked by presentations on the basic concepts, tools and methods of monitoring and evaluation. The second day was devoted to project evaluation and monitoring learning. The rich session ended with the presentation of certificates to the learners.

Improve the performance of the organization’s projects

As a reminder, the training was initiated with a view to improving the performance and results of the organization’s projects, particularly those linked to the “Participatory restoration of the forest landscape of Deng Deng National Park” project, implemented by SAILD with financial support from the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), as part of the IKI Small Grants program. The initiative is designed to boost the overall efficiency of the staff involved in achieving the project’s objectives.

At the end of the workshop, the consultant made a number of recommendations to strengthen SAILD‘s monitoring-evaluation system. These included renewing the monitoring-evaluation strategy, adapting it to the new standards, drawing up an action plan for its implementation, and updating the monitoring-evaluation plan specific to the IKI project. In addition, in order to address the various aspects of monitoring-evaluation in greater depth, and to promote greater appropriation of the tools, he suggested the organization of new training sessions.
