Opened in 2017, the Kaïgama educational farm is testing agroecological practices in the eastern region. An initiative of the NGO SAILD.
Just 15 kilometers along the Bertoua–Dimako road and you arrive at Kaïgama, a village in the Bertoua Premier district. At the entrance to the village, on the left, a well-maintained access road leads directly to a well-equipped site: the Kaïgama educational farm. The farm covers a total area of 3.5 hectares, 1.5 hectares of which have already been developed with plots for experimenting with agroecological practices.
On November 25, 2025, a guided tour of the SAILD educational farm in Kaïgama allowed model producers and agricultural station managers to immerse themselves in the realities of this educational space and to take a position on agroecology.
Dedicated to training, experimentation, and the application of agroecological techniques and practices, this farm school is home to several facilities, including nurseries on stilts, biofertilizer production units, a village chicken production unit, and a training room with a store.
Samy Hamadiko is the manager. According to him, agroecological practices are promoted and demonstrated thanks to small producers and the various trainees received each year from agronomy training institutes and schools in the Eastern region.
The practices being experimented with are crop rotation and intercropping, scattered trees, hedgerows, and localized burning.
