On March 27, 2024, the Support Service for Local Development Initiatives (SAILD) installed classroom libraries in selected schools in the village of Wall in the arrondissement of Minta, Haute-Sanaga department, Centre-Cameroon region.
The Wall nursery school, Wall elementary school and Wall high school each received books and closets from the Documentation Center for Rural Development (CDDR-SAILD). The event was attended by local administrative authorities, including the chief of the Wall group, the Wall sub-prefect, the Wall mayor and the heads of the schools, who expressed their gratitude for the donations..
This work is part of the “One Class, One Library” program, which aims to equip nursery and elementary school in rural areas with small classroom libraries.
It was also an opportunity to encourage learner’s efforts. The two best in each class, all gathered at the Wall public school, received gifts from the CDDR-SAILD. Eight schools in this village in the Haute Sanaga department were targeted: Wall elementary school, Meyak elementary school, Enong-Bikak primary school, Nlang primary school, Tikaré primary school, Nedal-Mbond primary school, Afanoveng primary school and Ngombe primary school.
These classroom libraries will enable young people in the Upper Sanaga region to attach greater importance to reading.
