The organization took part in a workshop to validate the technical-economic data sheets for agricultural production on October 17 and 18, 2024 in Mbankomo.
The aim of the meeting was to provide producers with well-developed technical and economic data sheets for agricultural production. Over two days, it brought together some twenty representatives of organizations including the Support Service for Local Development Initiatives (SAILD) and the Institute of Agricultural Research for Development (IRAD). The initiative, organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MINADER), is part of the Support Program for Strengthening Agricultural Production in Cameroon (PARPAC).
During the first day’s work, participants divided into two groups carefully consulted nine production sheets on the rice, wheat, sorghum (rainy and dry seasons), corn, potato, tomato, soybean and palm oil sectors. The session enabled stakeholders to take ownership of the sheets, propose amendments and make suggestions on content and form for better-quality documents.
“On the whole, the production sheets are rich in information and clear enough for growers. Nevertheless, we have completed some of the data and suggest harmonizing the layout of the sheets and producing an English version for English-speaking producers, as Cameroon is bilingual”, asserted Appolinaire Tetang, agricultural engineer in charge of agropastoral advice at SAILD.
The second day was marked by a plenary session, during which the players shared and exchanged views and proposals formulated within the groups.
At the end of the validation workshop, it was agreed that MINADER’s Department of Professional Agricultural Organizations and Farm Support (DOPA) would take into account the recommendations made in the production of the final agricultural technical-economic data sheets. However, participants stressed the importance of making these sheets available to farmers in all of Cameroon’s production basins.
