According to the World Food Program (WFP), 2.6 million people were still food insecure in Cameroon in 2025. The Eastern Region, where food and educational challenges persist, faces particular vulnerabilities. Based on this observation, SAILD proposed the Mbartoua School Farm project, titled “Farming to Learn, Producing to Feed: An Educational Farm Integrated with the School Cafeteria for Sustainable Nutrition and Environmental Education for Students.”
Through this project, the NGO aims to contribute to the sustainable improvement of school nutrition and environmental education via an educational farm integrated into the school cafeteria, with financial support from the International Organization of La Francophonie (IOF) To this end, on July 16, 2026, SAILD signed a memorandum of understanding with the principal of the Bertoua Bilingual High School—the beneficiary institution—to ensure the successful implementation of the project. The signing took place during a kick-off meeting attended by ten people, including representatives from the high school and the project implementation team.

The meeting helped clarify the roles of the various stakeholders, establish a local steering committee, and develop a roadmap leading up to the project’s official launch, scheduled for the start of the 2026 school year. Following this activity, a guided tour was conducted at the educational farm that will host the first training sessions for teachers and students, along with discussions on organizing future production activities and outreach efforts focused on sustainable agriculture.
It should be noted that this workshop took place a few weeks after the final selection of the secondary school that will host the project. Under the leadership of the regional delegate for secondary education in the East, the Bertoua Bilingual High School was selected from among five preselected schools.
