The fourth national forum on climate and seasonal forecasts was held in Kribi from April 20 to 24, 2026. It highlighted the mechanisms for producing meteorological information tailored to agricultural development and climate risk reduction in Cameroon.
Making weather information accessible to end-users in rural areas is one of the main priorities of the Fourth National Forum on Climate and Seasonal Forecasts in Cameroon (NCOF-04). Gathered in the city of Kribi from April 20 to 24, 2026, climate experts from the National Meteorological Directorate (DMN) at the Ministry of Transport, sectoral administrations, researchers, agro-industries, NGOs, media, and users of meteorological information came together to discuss and develop tools related to the production of meteorological information necessary for agricultural development.
Held under the theme, “Strengthening forecasting capabilities to understand socio-economic value: advancing climate services for agriculture and climate risk reduction in Cameroon,” NCOF-04 was organized by the African Union Commission, the African Center for the Application of Meteorology to Development (ACMAD), and the Central African Center for Climate Applications and Forecasting (CAPC-AC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport through the National Meteorological Directorate.
Socioeconomic benefits
Cameroon’s diverse climate makes it particularly vulnerable to weather-related hazards that affect its people. The recurring floods that occur following heavy rainfall demonstrate the significant impact of climate on people’s lives and their socioeconomic activities.
The NCOF-04 has thus helped strengthen the user interface platform for climate information by facilitating communication between producers and users of climate information to maximize benefits.
Throughout the project, particular emphasis was placed on analyzing the socioeconomic benefits of climate services. This approach aims to build a strong case for sustainable investments in strategic development sectors.
During his presentation, Roger Tamo, Production Site Manager at HEVECAM, outlined the benefits of using climate data within the company. These significant gains underscore the importance of utilizing meteorological information in the agricultural sector.
In addition to presentations and technical discussions, NCOF-04 aims to strengthen the climate services value chain, which will enable the implementation of activities at the local level for the significant benefit of end users.
